Kata or Karon: Which Beach Is Closer From Lae Lay Suites?

Lae Lay Suites sits on the hill between Kata and Karon Beach, so one of the first questions guests ask at check-in is: which way do we walk? Here's a short guide to help you decide.

Is Kata or Karon Closer To The Hotel?

Both beaches are roughly a 15-20 minute walk downhill from Lae Lay Suites, in opposite directions from the same stretch of Patak Road — so the honest answer is: they're about the same distance. The difference comes down to what each beach feels like once you're there.

What's The Walk Like Either Way?

Both routes pass restaurants, convenience stores, and massage shops along the way, so neither walk feels remote. Karon tends to be the quieter, longer stretch of sand, while Kata has a slightly livelier strip of beach bars and sits a touch closer to Kata Noi and the viewpoint road.

Our Recommendation

Walk down to whichever beach is closer to the restaurant you want for dinner that night, and use a short Grab or taxi ride back up the hill. Most guests do the walk down once and the ride up every time — it's a small hill, not a hike.
